It’s not that you have to replace your flat tappet hydraulic lifters. It’s just a good idea. You see, flat tappet lifters are not totally flat where the cam acts on the lifter. The seemingly flat area is actually slightly domed. You can’t really see the dome, but it’s there. The shape allows the lifter to ride on the surface a little smoother. If your existing lifters are worn at all, you’ll get slightly different lift out of every lifter and cam lobe. When building a new engine, you should try for consistency in all things. All parts are toleranced the same. Plus, cam and lifter kits usually include the cam and lifters as well as other pieces to install the cam, depending on the kit. Since lifters are so cheap when you buy in kit form, it’s just a smart move.

K&N XStream Universal Air Filters are made to fit many types of vehicles. The K&N RX-5032 is a 7 inch tall cylindrical air cleaner with a 2.813 inch inside flange. The rubber flange absorbs engine vibration and also stretches to fit slightly larger inlet pipes. Like most other K&N air cleaners, the RX-5032 is washable and reusable.

You’ve probably had to bleed brakes when no one was around to help. That’s a pretty tough job alone, unless you have a vacuum or pressure brake bleeder set-up. Motive Products has several pressure brake bleeders that work well with one person. The concept is simple. Place the brake pressure bleeder on the master cylinder. With brake fluid in the master cylinder and in the bottle, pump up the brake system with the Motive pump. This is similar to what happens when you pump the brake pedal. Brake fluid is pressurized and pushed toward the bleeders. Hook up your fluid catch bottles and open the bleeder screw. You should see fluid and air come out, if there is any. If you stop seeing air bubbles come out close the bleeder screw. Move onto the next bleeder screw and repeat until all 4 are done. Pressure brake bleeders work incredibly well and they’re affordable for the do-it-yourselfer!

Nothing will take the fun out of an off-roading trip faster than getting stuck with nothing to help you out. It’s fun to see the whole woods, or the mountains, not just the hole you fell in! A winch could be your savior. When others would be getting irritated that you’re stuck, a winch can pull you out, avoiding all the frustration that comes with being stuck. Truck winches let you hook up and haul out.

It always helps to have several types of pullers for geared and splined parts.Prying on these types of parts is usually a bad idea. Pitman arm pullers are the right way to go to yank a pitman arm. They pull directly opposite of the way the pitman arm went on, applying the force straight down the shaft. There’s no chance of destroying the shaft or pitman arm with the right puller.

One of my favorite all time wheels is the Weld Racing Pro Star. It’s a simple design with 5 spokes and made of aluminum alloy. It’s pre-Big Wheel so you can get them in 15 inch and one 14 inch rim size. There more of a drag racing rim, but look awesome on whatever you put them on. I’ve seen them on 70 Chevy trucks with Mickey Thompson tires out back and 36 Ford coupes. You just can’t beat them for versatility and good lucks.

For those of you running centrifugal type blowers with carburetors, a blow through carburetor is a must. When used with a bonnet, the blow through carb is sealed to bring in the boosted air. These carbs are made specifically for this situation where the boost is built before the carb. Roots type blowers boost the pressure after the carburetor.
