Adding power steering to your 1957, 1958, 1959 or 1960 Ford F100 might be easier than you think. F100 Central offers a Toyota power steering kit for your 57-60 F100. And, it’s pretty easy to install:
Here are the major steps so you see how easy it actually is:
- Remove your stock steering box and column.
- Clean up the area of the frame where the steering box bolted on.
- Fit the supplied bracket to the Toyota steering box and bolt it together
- Slide the Toyota box pitman arm shaft through the hole in the frame. If it doesn’t clear, open up the hole with a file or a die grinder.
- Use the supplied hole template to mark and drill the extra hole you need to bolt up the box. Some of the existing holes in the frame match up to the Toyota steering box already.
- Prep that area for paint and paint it if you want to
- Bolt the Toyota box onto the frame.
- Slide the pitman arm on the shaft and secure it
- Add the drag link
- Hook up the supplied power steering hoses. Be careful to watch the color coding and follow the instructions. It’s easy as long as you pay attention.
We’ll stop here, because depending on what steering column you use, the instructions could be different when you hook your steering column up to the Toyota steering box. A U-joint is available for just about any steering column shaft to hook to the 11/16″ diameter – 36 spline shaft on the Toyota steering box.
